David R. Allwood, 81 a resident of Dracut, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 31, 2026 due to complications of COPD. David was born in Charlestown, MA to the late John and Frances Theresa (Cameron) Allwood.
Dave grew up in Billerica, MA and was educated in the Billerica School System. He pursued a career in construction, eventually working for the Flatley Roofing Company. He loved his profession, often sharing his wonderful experiences on the roof. Dave was quite the storyteller.
Dave found joy in every part of life. He was the epitome of a person who, when dealt lemons, would make lemonade. His passion for the ocean brought him to Eastport, Maine, where he retired. Dave often said one of the greatest moments of his life was watching the sunrise at the turn of the century on the shores of Eastport with his longtime partner, Gail Carbone.
An avid Bruins fan and true Bruins historian, Dave held a season ticket for the “Big Bad Bruins” team of the seventies. He also cheered on the Patriots and the Red Sox. He enjoyed the races at Rockingham Park so much he purchased a race horse. During retirement, he took up golf with Cheryl.
Dave’s foremost love was for his daughter, Cheryl. He spent many hours and days teaching her about all sports, encouraging her to continue her education and sharing many Salisbury Beach camping trips together. He instilled in her the importance of family.
Dave embraced every family gathering. His Irish humor and generosity will not only be missed by his family but also his many friends who affectionately called him “Pappy.”
Dave was an avid animal lover. From cats to dogs to Squirrels and chipmunks, he especially cherished Noodles and Lola.
Dave is survived by his loving daughter, Cheryl Allwood and her partner Kristin Greenquist of Dracut, his sister Ann Nadeau and her daughter Michelle of Methuen and her son Billy of Oklahoma and his only granddaughter Amber. He also leaves his sister-in-Law Linda Diefendorf, his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Dave’s friendship with Cathy whose companionship brought him great joy, will also be remembered with gratitude by those who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his brother John Allwood and his wife Claudette, his longtime partner Gail Carbone and his former spouse Laurel Fleming.
